Artist Statement: My artwork is a conversation of identity, self-pleasure, and gender expression through paintings, sculpture, and wearable art. I use lace, ribbon, beadwork, pastries, and pastels to express hyperfemininity — all aspects that overlap with Lolita fashion. With the origins of the fashion being rooted in challenging gender norms, it becomes a medium and a shield to the female body’s constant over-sexualization. The tension between hard and soft, modesty and promiscuousness is a way to exert self control over ones body, presentation, and sexuality.
