Project Statement: This is a stippling made with marker pen on watercolor paper (11in x 13in). This is part of a series of stippling's I've done after my service in the military (Army), to help describe/express my feelings while adjusting back into society. You can see the basketball player with a clear mask on, who looks exhausted with his hands on his hips pondering out into the distance (negative space). Also in the background the same player facing away from us with words in his hair that reads "You can't hide forever". This piece is about self reflection, staying true to who you are, and not hiding from the world behind the mask.

Artist Statement: I am Juliano Castro, a Latino veteran born and raised in North side Chicago (Logan Square). My art embodies a deep commitment to cultural identity, resilience, and the experiences of military life. Drawing inspiration from my heritage and personal journey, I explore themes of spirituality, healing, and self-development through traditional techniques. My work aims to encourage reflection, foster healing, and raise awareness. As a veteran, I bring a distinctive perspective, using my art to bridge the gap between different worlds and connect diverse experiences.
