Artist Statement: I base my work on my observant nature, so everyday life, architecture, and Edward Hopper are my main inspirations. Architecture has been my focus for the past six months. Recently, I have explored my identity by interweaving my Mexican culture and European ancestry with my passion for architecture to draw attention to the effects of colonialism in contemporary culture. I have also developed a universe for the past five years and have begun to create visual art to bring this universe to life.
Project Statement: The Geodesic Project is a universe I have developed for the past five years and have brought to life through an ongoing series that includes printmaking, drawing, painting, and creative writing. "Winnie's Emblem" is part of a lithograph mini-series called "The Kids." I walked around Chicago to find rosettes (an architectural ornament) and used each as an emblem for some of the main characters. I took pictures of the rosettes, drew them, and printed them.
