Artist Statement:

Alx is a 21-year-old nonbinary artist and photography student who loves uplifting experiences through creative expression. By creating a comfortable atmosphere for the purpose of building community they help people feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera. In their work, they reflect upon representation of queer, nonbinary, femme, and trans voices. In the media, stigmatization is dominated by the need for representation. As a queer nonbinary artist of color, they feel that it is important to put people that reflect those identities in the forefront of their work. They want to show the raw version of people in what they create.

In my works, I feel that it is important that women, nonbinary, and trans people are uplifted through creative expression. In these photos, you see women and nonbinary people ranging in age, background, and experience–business owners, students, and educators alike. These images are not only portraits, but also are the reflection of visibility, acceptance, and equality for all. A window into the lives of those who have been historically marginalized and often overlooked. These stories are vital because they provide a mirror for those who feel unheard. This body of work serves as a reminder that everybody's story is important no matter their gender identity or background.
