Artist Statement:
Chloe McFarland is an image-based artist and photographer working in Chicago and Los Angeles. Her work explores themes of identity and the human experience, from the perspective of a young woman who wants to question everything. Using a variety of image making methods, such as traditional digital photography, photoshop, analog practices, and scanning, she captures the complexities of personal and emotional landscapes, inviting viewers to reflect on their own experiences. Her photography spans both fine art and editorial work, blending raw photographic moments with strong visual aesthetics that cover diverse contexts.
Expressing yourself as a girl and a woman in today’s world comes with an insane number of challenges. Whether it's the pressure of social media, the impact of trend culture, familial expectations, or navigating the complexities of the corporate world, the list of obstacles can literally go on forever. These pressures often shape how women perceive themselves and how they’re seen by others. For me, creating art surrounding these topics and how I personally view them has become a powerful way to process and make sense of these experiences. My work serves as both a personal reflection and a confrontation of the issues women face in a rapidly changing world. It’s a means of reclaiming agency, offering a space for self-expression, and confronting the complexities of womanhood in all its forms.
