How-To Enjoy Missing Out
As cases, hospitalizations, and deaths continue to increase across the United States,
the safest way to celebrate the winter holidays is to celebrate at home with people who live with you.

The holidays are going to look different this year for most of us and it’s ok if you find yourself a little relieved at the thought of a quieter holiday. Here are some reasons we think you can, and should, enjoy “missing out” this year.
- Traveling is stressful. While traveling can be enjoyable; dealing with crowded airports, traffic, and bad weather are a few of the reasons why many find holiday travel especially stressful. Without needing to travel for the holidays you are potentially saving days of vacation time. Take the time an enjoy those extra hours (or days) you’ve gained!
- Give yourself a break. This is the year to take a break from your typical social holiday obligations and relax. Most years, you may find that your evenings and weekends during December are booked with holiday events. We often find ourselves spread too thin trying to visit with friends, family, and co-workers. Take a moment and relish that you aren’t obligated to go anywhere. In fact, it’s better if you stay at home and celebrate with the people or pets that you live with.
- Save money. With canceled plans and less places to go, you are probably going to save money this year. The holiday season can get expensive quickly; from purchasing gifts and the cost of travel to needing to bring food to holiday potlucks or getting a new outfit for a party these little, or big, purchases add up.
- Savor the little things. The holidays are notoriously hectic; enjoy the fact that this year they might not have to be so stress-inducing. Try selecting a few specific moments or events over the next couple of weeks that you plan to savor. Maybe it’s watching your favorite holiday movie under a warm blanket, going for a walk in some freshly fallen snow, or savoring the taste of your favorite holiday food. Whatever the occasion, remember to take in these moments and hold on to them for as long as you can.
