Artist Statement

My work explores the fun side of food! I love to recreate favorite childhood treats and make them into fun accessories and jewelry. Each piece challenges me to sculpt and use my creativity in many different ways.

In my work, I look to bring joy to others and promote a sense of nostalgia in each of my pieces! My artist motto is “Work hard, with passion & be kind”.

What work do you currently have at ShopColumbia?
I currently have two different kinds of earrings and a magnet at the shop! The first part of my collection is called "Cosmic Dreams" earrings and magnets. They are sculpted with polymer clay and based on the classic childhood treat Cosmic brownies. The other is called "Smore's you Later" and they are smores earrings.

What inspired you to create this series of work?

I was inspired by classic childhood treats and foods that I love in my life. Thus the name "Junque Food Jewelry". The cosmic brownie earrings started as a fun craft during quarantine and after a few times making them I perfected them! Then people started asking to buy them so I thought what better way to have fun!

In what ways do you think you have benefited from being a ShopColumbia artist?
While being a ShopColumbia artist I've already gotten to share my art with others. It's so cool when someone posts your art/craft to their social media stories. It's also been so awesome to actually see someone on the street wearing my earrings! Going into the shop during manifest and watching people look at my work is so great and it makes it worth it!

Give us an update about recent project/artistic life events; what’s next for you?
I've been busy with Film projects this summer, but also focusing on travel and being out in nature. I'm working on new earrings, including deep dish pizza earrings! I've also started to sell my earrings to friends and family back home in Minnesota! I can't wait for next semester and I'm hoping to get a booth at Inkfest next year!
