Artist Statement:
Carmen Ordoñez is a Honduran documentary photographer based in Chicago whose work explores themes of community, feminism, and culture. She engages deeply with various Latino communities, using her photography to challenge assumptions and rethink the visual narrative surrounding overlooked groups in the United States and Latin America.

As a documentary photographer, my work is driven by a deep curiosity about people, places, and the untold stories that shape them. Through my lens, I aim to understand and document the “realities” of diverse communities across the United States and Latin America, including the Lowrider community in the Midwest and Latina women both in the U.S. and abroad. My journey has taken me beyond the streets of Chicago, across cities and borders, where I engage with unfamiliar cultures. Each photograph is a reflection of this exploration, an attempt to challenge assumptions and offer an honest portrayal of communities often overlooked or misrepresented.
