Artist Statement:

Jessica Idaliz Pagan is a Chicago-based fine art photographer whose work has been exhibited at the Tweed Art Museum and other various showcases in the Chicago land area. She was lucky enough to have photographed the 2024 DNC with the Associated Press. Her photographs blend a photojournalistic perspective with a fine art approach, capturing moments that feel both documentary and deeply expressive. Inspired by family, friends, and culture, her photography explores themes of change, melancholy, and pleasure, creating images that evoke emotion and challenge the mind of the viewer.

My work exists at the intersection of fine art and documentary photography, capturing the raw emotions of revolution, pain, and pleasure. I am drawn to the tension between beauty and struggle, using light, composition, and storytelling to create images that feel both immediate and timeless. My photography serves as a form of visual resistance—documenting the rough, underlying beauty within each moment, culture, or landscape that might otherwise be overlooked or discarded. Each photograph is an invitation to reflect, question, and connect—a testament to the power of photography as both a personal and collective narrative.
