KALEIDOSCOPE: REFLECTING 25 YEARS OF CREATIVITY
A kaleidoscope is simple. A toy you look through to see something pretty. But, when I put it in the hands of my roommates, they all had something different to say. The painter talked about the colors, the interpreter considered the shapes, and the cinematographer tore the thing apart just to figure out how it worked.
Disassembled, a kaleidoscope is just a couple of mirrors shoved into a cardboard tube. The magic comes from the way you interact with it; the things you choose to see, because of how different everyone's perspective and creative process is. My roommates each saw something reflective of their disciplines, of their creativity. And so, the goal of my design has become ensuring the students of this school feel represented.
Using bright jewel tones and geometric patterns, I hope to mimic the beautiful and instantly captivating patterns found in kaleidoscopes. Beyond that, I hope to use this captivation to draw the viewer in for a closer look. Within each shape is a small representation of a portion of our school. A small Easter egg for every single major and department graduating this year. My hope is that every single student can look at this pattern and find a small piece of themselves in it.
Every day, in every corner of this school, someone is making something spectacular. As the 2026 Manifest Creative Director, I would use the theme of kaleidoscope to reflect color, creativity, and various talents of this school. Both of which come from one simple source: the actions and passions of its students.
