Artist Statement:
Aliya Brown is a Cleveland and Chicago-based Photographer, Videographer, Graphic Designer, and Editor. In both her photography and video work, she draws inspiration from the past, channeling the energy and aesthetic of past decades into contemporary projects. Her creative process thrives on blending nostalgia with innovation—reimagining and revitalizing elements from earlier eras and bringing them into the present day. Music, often the heartbeat of her work, serves as a driving force, guiding her ideas and shaping the mood of each piece. She is deeply fascinated by the connection between memory, sound, and visual storytelling, and seeks to create work that evokes emotion and sparks imagination. Her goal is to transport her audience to a different time while also inviting them to experience something fresh and unexpected.
In my fashion photography, I aim to capture my subjects in a new light, revealing a version of them that is often hidden or unexplored. My lens is not just a tool for documenting style; it’s a means of uncovering the complexities and layers of identity, personality, and emotion. Each shot is an opportunity to experiment, to push boundaries, and to see the world from a different perspective.
