Major: 3D animation, Minor in Game Design, 2026

Artist Statement: Hello, I am Kennedy Heiden. I am a 3D art major with a minor in game design. I have been born and raised here, and I am absolutely in love with Chicago. This city means a lot to me. The culture, environment, and people have heavily inspired my art. Another influence on me is horror. Horror has been a big part of my life for a very long time. My first game was Bendy and The Ink Machine, not very scary, but as a kid it blew my mind. I was enlightened to a new genre of creativity. Horror is an art form that you can truly push. It is meant to be otherworldly and eerie. My favorite type of horror is eldritch horror. I adore incomprehensible things. The concept of greater things beyond our own comprehension fascinates me. A lot of my art is inspired by eldritch and demonic things. It is truly a challenge to try to bring something incomprehensible into a digestible concept, all while still maintaining the otherworldly fee. As much as I love horror, I try to make art for others. I love seeing the joy enter a person's eyes when they see something spectacular. It is truly an honor to watch people enjoy what I created. Seeing the look on people's faces upon viewing my art, pushes me to be better. Whether that is figuring out a new rendering style, or discovering a whole new culture, I challenge myself to expand my way of thinking and creating. I believe art is for everyone. If someone has a question, I am more than happy to help them! I do not like gatekeeping, and there is far too much of it in the art community. My art is not only for others to enjoy, but for me as well. I enjoy looking back and seeing how far I have come. This would be my first time selling my art. I would love nothing more than to sell my art at the school that has pushed me to improve, connect and share. Columbia truly has changed my art for the better. From last semester to now, my art has grown. I feel so much more confident in my style, skill, capability, and storytelling. Even if I am not accepted into the market, I am proud of myself. I tried; I felt that I could sell my art. This is a wonderful step for me. Even if I am not selected, I thank you for your consideration, and I thank Columbia as a whole for giving me the confidence to try.
